Hiking in Shenandoah National Park

As much as I like riding my bike, I think my first love will always be hiking. It was such a perfect Saturday to drive out to Skyline Drive and do some hiking in Shenandoah National Park.

We didn't plan a long or strenuous hike giving us the time to casually stroll in the bright sun, enjoying the beauties of nature around us. Before getting on the trail we went into the Dickey Ridge Visitor Center. One of the rangers there gave us the suggestion for doing a figure eight hike that totaled 5 miles.

The first loop was the Fox Hollow Trail and the second loop covered the Snead Farm Trail with part of the Dickey Ridge Trail. We knew most of the walking would be in the woods and with leaves on the trees, even when we were up on the ridge, we figured that we wouldn't be able to see over into the valleys.

The ranger had failed to mention that there would be one outstanding view on the way back where the trail was on an open ridge above Skyline Drive and you could see way out over the valley. It was a pleasant surprise to find such a nice spot.
